JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position title:             Substitute Teacher

Reports to:                 Principal

 

 

Job Goal

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lesson and to provide meaningful instruction for the assigned classroom.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

 

  1. Report to the school office at the beginning of the school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes, and at the end of the school day, return materials
  2. Follow sign-out procedures as prescribed by the district
  3. Carry out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher
  4. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
  5. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned
  6. Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives
  7. Maintain a neat and orderly classroom – straightens chairs, tables, clears chalkboard, etc.
  8. Take attendance in accordance with school procedures
  9. Indicate to students at the beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with district policies and school procedures
  10. Ensure that students are never left unattended in the classroom
  11. Know emergency evacuation routes for the classroom assigned
  12. Know procedures for referring students with disciplinary problems
  13. Know school procedures and regulations
  14. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as requested by his/her supervisor(s)

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                

Hourly rate and work year to be established by the Board.

 

 

EVALUATIONS:                                  

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent.
